Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium Sponsors Darnell's Digital Power Forum

Corona, California, June 25, 2008 – The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) has become a Supporting Sponsor of Darnell’s Digital Power Forum to be hosted at the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco Airport on September 15 – 17.

Major Expansion of Embedded Power Coverage at the Digital Power Forum

Corona, California, June 12, 2008 – Darnell’s fifth-annual Digital Power Forum (DPF ’08) will add a new track of papers on Advanced Components to the two existing tracks on Power Conversion and Mission Critical Facilities. With more speakers than ever, the DPF ’08 provides the broadest coverage of advanced power conversion for embedded system applications. Papers will be presented on planar magnetics, advanced thermal solutions, new semiconductor devices, including Silicon Carbide, in addition to detailed discussions of power management, energy efficiency and, of course, digital power technologies.

Who Are the Silent Killers of Micro Fuel Cells?

Corona, California, May 21, 2008 – Darnell Group has identified a conspiracy against the successful development of a meaningful market for the use of micro fuel cells (MFCs) in portable electronic devices such as mobile phone handsets and laptop computers. System makers, producers of Li-ion batteries and consumers have unwittingly entered into a conspiracy that continues to keep MFCs from gaining traction in the marketplace. MFCs were expected to offer "significant" performance improvements compared with Li batteries, such as longer operating times and "instant recharging."

HB-LEDs Eclipse Neon Lighting in Signs

Corona, California, May 16, 2008 – In 2008, HB–LEDs will be the most-used lighting source in channel letter signs. Neon lighting, long dominant in that segment, will slip to second place in terms of market share. The just-released First Edition of "LED Driver ICs: Worldwide Forecasts" provides a detailed roadmap of the successive application segments that will push growth for solid state lighting between now and 2013. The market for high-brightness LED driver ICs is increasingly diverse and presents significant growth opportunities.

Darnell Projects Growth for External AC-DC

Corona, California, May 14, 2008 – Despite a global economic slowdown, the outlook for the worldwide external ac-dc power supply market is expected to remain strong. The worldwide external power supply (EPS) market is projected to grow from $6.7 billion in 2008 to almost $10.0 billion in 2013, a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2%. The worldwide EPS unit market is expected to grow at a somewhat faster pace, with a CAGR of 11.1% between 2008 and 2013. Although this market is mature, and a number of segments have slowed, the industry as a whole is still strong and expanding. Surging demand from emerging application segments is resulting in a changing product mix.

Designing Ultra-Low-Power Wireless Systems

Corona, California, May 8, 2008 – Ultra-low-power and energy harvesting open the gate to widespread adoption of wireless sensor communication technology. In comparison to traditional ac-powered and even battery-powered applications, designers need to tackle new challenges and design with substantially different design constraints. A continuing education seminar titled, "Designing for ultra-low-power wireless sensor applications, powered by energy harvesting," will be presented by the GreenPeak Academy on June 4 in Costa Mesa, California. Senior specialists from the GreenPeak Academy will address the key design challenges for ultra-low-power wireless sensor applications. Tips and Tricks will be discussed to arrive at the lowest possible energy consumption. Real life cases (including demo materials) will be addressed.

53 LED Driver IC Applications Analyzed

Corona, California, May 5, 2008 – The just-released First Edition of "LED Driver ICs: Worldwide Forecasts" provides a detailed roadmap of the successive application segments that will push growth for solid state lighting between now and 2013. The market for high-brightness LED driver ICs is increasingly diverse and presents significant growth opportunities. The dollar market is projected to grow significantly faster than unit sales. The higher dollar growth rate is a reflection of high growth rates for higher-cost LED driver ICs such as those used in LCD backlighting, signs, and automotive applications, compared with lower growth rates for lower-cost driver ICs used in mobile phone handsets and other portable applications.

Harvesting Ambient Energy - Update on Latest Developments

Corona, California, April 29, 2008 – Speakers from around the world will present the latest technology and product developments in harvesting ambient energy at the second-annual nanoPower Forum (nPF ’08) in Costa Mesa, California, June 2-4. nPF ’08 will include 20 papers on energy harvesting by authors from Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore and the UK, as well as the U.S. Additional sessions will address the related topics of "Lower-Power System Architectures," ’System Integration Issues," and "Thin-Film Batteries." This year’s Forum will end with a half-day seminar on "Designing for ultra-low-power wireless sensor applications, powered by energy harvesting."

Seminar on System Integration of Energy Harvesting

Corona, California, March 18, 2008 – A half-day post-conference design seminar on “Designing for ultra-low-power wireless sensor applications, powered by energy harvesting” has been added to the second-annual nanoPower Forum (nPF ’08) to be held June 2-4 at the Wyndham Orange County in Costa Mesa, California. This seminar will be hosted by the GreenPeak Academy and is offered to all nPF ’08 registered delegates.

5th Annual Digital Power Forum Call for Papers

Corona, California, March 13, 2008 – Darnell Group has issued a Call for Papers for the fifth annual Digital Power Forum (DPF ’08) to be held September 15 – 17, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco Airport in Burlingame, CA. Darnell’s Digital Power Forum is expected to continue its exponential year-over-year growth and will be the premier event for the power electronics industry in 2008. DPF is the only power conference that attracts all the diverse groups interested in power conversion, power management and energy efficiency including: component makers, power supply designers, system manufacturers, end-users such as data center operators, government officials, even the investment community
